However, my visit to <a href="https://magnoliamarket.com/" target="_blank">Magnolia Market</a> I feel, is *blog-worthy*. š So I'm making time to write </span><span style="color: #454545; font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;">at 10:00pm</span><span style="color: #454545; font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;">. </span></span><br />
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Right off, let me answer the top two questions everyone's been asking. Then, I'll expand into the nitty gritty of my visit.</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Did I meet Chip & JoAnna Gaines? No. I tried to check their appearance schedule and even went as far as to try to schedule a meeting with their public relations team member...but they were busy the week I was there.</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">2. Is it worth traveling to see? My answer is to, wait. Is it worth it? Yes, but there's still work to be done, and if you're traveling as far as I did...you might want to go when it's more complete. It was still great, but I think there's reasons to wait.</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you are planning a trip in the near future regardless of my "wait" comment--I recommend you go in October 6-8th when they are having their Johnnyswim concert event--great music and an <a href="https://shop.magnoliamarket.com/products/johnnyswim-concert-ticket-friday-october-7" target="_blank">appearance by Chip & Joanna</a>. </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Now...for the details. Before visiting Waco--we hit up the late, Elvis' Graceland. Graceland and Magnolia/Silos both had something in common--little gems in the middle of a very run-down area. (We jokingly sang Elvis' "In the Ghetto" while driving.) it didn't seem like a dangerous area by any means--just not particularly pretty.</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I was pretty giddy for my visit and my husband kept telling me not to get my hopes up because he didn't want me to be disappointed...I do that a lot...when you are creative and have big dreams...things can be difficult to knock your socks off! </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The first exit was closed so we came in a back detour, which perhaps might have been part of seeing a dull part of Waco. The silos can be seen blocks away...(I think I was clapping in my seat at this point). </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Free parking was on the back side of the property. My hubby prepped the kids with Frogg toggs, hand water bottle fans, a fan on the stroller (yes, we traveled by SUV with three children 6years and under--we Rock!) ...I was still too excited to notice that it was 110* outside!!! Around the corner the famous checkerboard turf greeted us. We went into the market first. </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyvpbVUIQovqZI_ugzSOGA7PoZ0aY1hI3BreYCPZvvh083UN3Xgs0swcSuZp-DzwkMTE0Ly22uqxTW-qx9UEHA99c8jHOJNiiKFo68N-aPL1x6MWBIyhZzCMoNdWg526qTWE7h0XABQE8y/s640/blogger-image-1201693755.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyvpbVUIQovqZI_ugzSOGA7PoZ0aY1hI3BreYCPZvvh083UN3Xgs0swcSuZp-DzwkMTE0Ly22uqxTW-qx9UEHA99c8jHOJNiiKFo68N-aPL1x6MWBIyhZzCMoNdWg526qTWE7h0XABQE8y/s640/blogger-image-1201693755.jpg" /></a></span></div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">While you can use a stroller, the place was so packed with visitors, it was difficult to navigate. (My sweet hubby juggled the kids so I could enjoy free hands!) Magnolia was beautifully merchandised. I enjoyed combing through everything. Everyone was super friendly and happy to be there--so that was nice! There were two tiers/levels to shop in. I purchased a few gifts (fragrant soaps), a plater, and a <a href="https://shop.magnoliamarket.com/products/magnolia-silos-tank" target="_blank">tank top</a>. Obviously could have easily spent more money...but I was being good. (Wink). Prices were affordable, but it adds up quickly. The checkout experience was extremely personal and welcoming...In fact, I went back for more items and they remembered me the second time through! :)</span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After that we enjoyed the lawn and swings. They had food trucks set up around the back. There was construction going on. I'm not certain what that part was going to be...but we were asked to move out of the way while struggling to make a bottle in 110* temps so they could move a truck...let's just say, Chip wasn't the one renovating in his wildly entertaining manor...</span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">

<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">My husband enjoyed the food trucks set up. The food was fantastic--but again, bringing in different businesses brings different personalities...ultimately, I'd love to see them open restaurants maybe "in" the silos or replace the food trucks. They'd profit better from controlling that space in my opinion.</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We ate under a pavilion that had misting overhead to keep you cool. The white picnic tables were a fresh touch to the outdoor setting! My kids were for some reason enjoying digging in the dirt because they thought they would find dino bones. Texas dirt is dry and dusty...not heavy and dark like the midwest...so I think that's why their imaginations were sparked! haha! </span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">From there, we checked out the seed supply. I bought an adorable plant misting can...that is, after my husband decided to practically take a bath in the trough tub they had out front...there's a little "Chip" in my husband...again, I was a bit too distracted to notice the heat!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The silos are an amazingly photogenic backdrop to the property. You can't take a bad photograph there. Next to the silo/stage is the "#milestomagnolia ranch sign"...so we got our pic...the girl who took our picture was such a doll. She listened to nearly every joke my kiddos told her, bless her heart!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lastly, we grabbed a sinfully delicious cupcake from the bakery, before saying goodbye.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So, did it disappoint me? Yes, and no. Would I go back? The length of this blog entry should tell you the answer is, in a heartbeat . I think the magic of "Fixer Upper" lies within the personalities of Chip & Joanna. I felt their personalities were missing from the "experience" and overall design. Even a projected blooper reel on a screen would have helped to bring that "fun" to the atmosphere. There was just something missing...and that's all I could come up with.</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I think people go there for different reasons. Some feel they are getting something uniquely handpicked from Joanna herself. Some perhaps live locally and it's a local attraction. Some see themselves in the Gaines family. Some are sweet husbands being dragged along with their design-happy wives. </span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For me...I've been drawn to her story. Joanna has been pretty open about how she felt God lead her to put her job on hold for her family. I too left a job for my family...and became a stay-at-home-mom and chose to run my business out of my home. It was a decision I prayed heavily on and I've felt God's blessings along the way ever since. I'm a dreamer and I have big plans, but I have to remember to let Him reveal His desires for me. Isaiah 55:9</span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">So, to stand on the property of the Silos, for me, sparked a light of curiosity within me. A curiosity to keep seeking the course </span><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">God has in store for me. He has my story written--it may not be on the scale of Chip & JoAnna's <i>earthy success</i>, but it's all *<b>inspiring</b>*. Sometimes, as adults we think backwards. We teach our children to dream and dream BIG and follow those goals...but as adults we view each other as foolish for dreaming big...like big ambitions are meant for childhood only. Change gets uncomfortable. Fear and awareness of failure sets in. It's terrible and the complete opposite of what we should teach our kids.</span></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So here's to staying "uncomfortable". Growing in change and following something bigger than myself! Letting my kids know that God doesn't have an expiration date on us. We are to be used at every age. May our hearts be in-tune with His and may our feet "move" when we are called.</span></div>
<div style="color: #454545;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255 , 255 , 255 , 0); font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Blessings!</span></div>

<a href="http://lintelsandlallies.com/?p=170" title="Color"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-158" src="http://lintelsandlallies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/LL_Logo_3Blocks_approach.jpg" height="250" title="L&L_Logo_3Blocks_approach" width="369" /></a></div>
So, what do we mean by āapproachable designā?
We believe that the modern role of interior designers has changed from its historical beginnings. Homeowners today have so many resources at their fingertips. <br />
<a name='more'></a>We acknowledge and appreciate what you, the homeowner, have learned through television, magazines & the internet. By understanding and respecting the perspective you bring to the table, we work <em>with you </em>to lend a hand in the areas you feel you need assistance in.
We are not a traditional design āfirmā, and our owners names aren't contained within our business title for a reason. </div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I'm doing some "website editing" (fun, fun *sarcasm*), and felt this post was more of a blog-style and thought I'd keep/move it over here--enjoy!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ever wonder why you bring home several paint swatches from the paint store only to find that none of them look the way you thought they would?
</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">While part of the reason is lighting, the main key factor is color memory. It is obvious that you can't recall details of your bedroom with your eyes closed, the same as if you could if you were in the actual space. Color memory is very limited, even for the trained eye. Research from "eyewitness" visual experts, shows that we view colors in 11 categories. (white, black, grey, red, blue, green, yellow, brown, orange, purple, & pink). Because of this, we tend to have a very hard time distinguishing colors between each category by memory.
For instance, in your memory, try to identify the color of a stop signā¦
Which one of these would you say is it? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><a href="http://lintelsandlallies.com/170/stopsign/" rel="attachment wp-att-181"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-181" src="http://lintelsandlallies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/StopSign.jpg" height="424" title="StopSign" width="376" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
The official Pantone color for our stop signs is actually Pantone Red 187, which is the color you will find in image number seven. Did you get it right? Strange how you can see something every day, but still not recall it perfectly.
For one more example, try to match the infamous McDonaldās Golden Arches to your memory, which one do you think is correct? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://lintelsandlallies.com/170/mcdonalds_colors/" rel="attachment wp-att-182"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-182" src="http://lintelsandlallies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Mcdonalds_Colors.jpg" height="549" title="Mcdonalds_Colors" width="164" /></a> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> The official Pantone color for McDonalds is actually Pantone 123, which you will find in image number one. How did you do with this one?
With so many colors to choose from, and <a href="http://lintelsandlallies.com/?page_id=14" title="SERVICES">such affordable services</a>, you'll want to make sure you have us bring all the paint samples to your interior so we can help you properly identify your perfect hue.</span>Barbara Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03294514932690464869noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042469888903229529.post-11001244382282644392015-04-11T15:15:00.000-07:002015-04-11T15:15:12.092-07:00Sometimes a Designer has to ask for HELP<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Whew, it's been awhile since my last entry; I've been a busy bee!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've had renovation after renovation nonstop! Last year we completed a church that was new construction, a master bath renovation, a basement, countless color & furniture consultations, and a kitchen and sunroom renovation...I'm sure I'm missing stuff...it was a very busy year for L&L! Then, my husband shocked us all by ending the year with open-heart surgery! Literally right after returning from Northwestern (hospital) we learned we are expecting BABY #3!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, here I am, my hubby's doing great, we've been back to work for several months and my wardrobe is getting more, um, "difficult". I decided to treat this "season" with a full closet overhaul. I've started packing away things I know will take awhile to fit back into...and my closet is somewhat empty!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm so busy with work these days, and I HATE shopping for maternity clothes. I pulled out my maternity clothes from my first two babies, and just cringed. I didn't feel good in those clothes the first time around...and as a close friend pointed out "I'm sure they are out of style!" haha...so I've decided to have a wardrobe stylist take care of this 'season' for me. I'm pretty picky with my clothes (surprise, surprise)...so we'll have to see how it turns out. I'll be sure to keep you posted! I've always said I'd like to design a line of clothes...but unfortunately I don't sew, and I think those two go hand-in-hand. (wink) I know what necklines look best on me, I know my best colors, I have a definite style...I'm just hoping my stylist doesn't reject me as "too high maintenance"! HA! They give you a section to "type your notes to help the stylist learn your needs"...and I kept running out of character typing space. (whoops).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm doing my best to keep an open mind...I am actually a little excited! It's kinda interesting to have someone pick something out for me for a change! It's a nice program, for $20 if it can save me time and frustration, I think it's worth a try! If you are interested, I'll post the link below. Here's how it works:<br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">-Basically, you fill out a style profile (likes & dislikes, sizes etc).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">-Schedule your "Stitch Fix" -- It's delivered to your home</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">-You buy what you like & return the rest. The more you buy the more you save.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'll let you know what I think. I scheduled my first shipment for the first week in May!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

For me Iām kinda a messy person. Ok, ok, Iām a *really* messy person. Donāt get me wrong, I enjoy cleaningā¦but have to be in the mood for itā¦which letās face it, doesnāt happen very often, and so cleaning becomes procrastination. (Am I procrastinating by writing this blog? Whoops!)
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At my *Faithful Fitness*class today, we played a little game to help us get to know each other better. So, when those of us with ādirty dishesā in our sink had to get up and moveā¦I learned that maybe Iām not aloneā¦but then I was impressed by those who had managed to clean either the night before or first thing in that morning.
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For years I told my husband that "if I were a good housekeeper too, then Iād be perfect, and thatās just not achievable, I mean we all have to have a flaw right?" (smile)ā¦but after 15 years, the cuteness and charm of that comment has worn off. Itās time for changeā¦can I do it???
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Typically, Iāll be really good for about a weekā¦then I start letting things slide, one by one. My worst thing is laundry. Nobody tells you how much extra laundry you will get with kids. Also, a basket of kid laundry is FAR worse than adult laundry because their clothes are so small, that you are folding sooo much more! (These are the analytics that cross the brain when ya hate laundry!)
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, Iāve decided itās time for a fresh start. I read up a little to see how others do things. I think part of my problem was I had one laundry day. One full day of doing something I donāt enjoy. Overā¦and overā¦.and over. Load after load after load. I would put it on the back burner, allow myself to be distracted and forget. Iāve learned that some folks break it up in the week itās not as bad! My game plan is to have 2-3 laundry days, so I can stay on top of it (hopefully).
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We recently hosted a party celebrating my sonās first birthday. (Pictures/blog to come soon) And while preparing, we kept coming across pesky things to clean that we never really think about. Such as wiping down things in the laundry room, cleaning windows, scrubbing the frig etc etc etcā¦it took us much longer to prepare because, well, I donāt do these chores on a regular basis.
After my research, Iāve put together a chart with daily, weekly, and monthly things to help keep me on track with our home. When you have kids, a business, and hobbies; cleaning is such a pain. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">While I know there are many natural clean freaks out there, I have to believe Iām not alone in this departmentā¦so Iām attaching my chart. Iām going to give it a whirl this month & change it as I feel I need to. The bottom is daily stuff and the weekly/monthly items I sprinkled through randomly. Let me know what you think. Have any tips/tricks? Share em with me! Let me know how you doā¦anyone want to join me on this cleaning quest? Ok, enough procrastinating, I must go clean now. Time to crank the music so I can dance my way through cleaning house! (wink)</span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">(If ya want me to send you the excel file, email me)</span><br />
<br />

Barbara Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03294514932690464869noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042469888903229529.post-16476420978323450622013-02-27T20:34:00.001-08:002013-02-27T20:34:42.228-08:00Why hire a designerā¦I mean, Iām awesome at decorating my own home!...(right?)<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As we should, women take pride in their home. And who knows how to decorate it better than you right?! <strong>Exactly</strong>. (you can relax & breathe - we agree - {smiles}) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I think the biggest misconception about designers is that we come in and push *our* vision in *your* spaceā¦while that may be true of some, it simply is not the case for us. We *get it*. It is not an āall or nothingā thing for us. We help you with as much or *as little* design as YOU want. We value what you, the homeowner, have learned through watching your favorite design shows, reading magazines, and viewed online, you may even have a natural eye for design! But letās face itā¦.have there been times you feel like a room doesnāt have a *finished look*? Youāve probably struggled with finding the perfect paint color. These factors have nothing to do with you personally being bad at decorating your homeā¦it just means that, maybe you can use a *little* help in certain areas. And there is nothing wrong with that. It doesnāt mean you have lost control of taking care of your homeā¦it doesnāt mean that you donāt have an eye for creativity and designā¦there is nothing shameful in getting help!
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Designers have education and experience that the average homeowner may lack. Weāve gone to school and studied the fundamentals and history of design. We have problem solved and been in countless homes. So, while some design dilemmas may be annoying to some people, a designer likely enjoys and can offer easy advice.
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The best analogy I can think of is when you go to a restaurant and look at the menuā¦the chef doesnāt come out and tell you what to orderā¦rather, they display everything for you to choose. It is still your selection. You may even choose to customize that choice but the chef knows the secret ingredients that will please your senses and bring you back for a delightful experience.
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We save you time, money, and possibly frustration, as we bring full selections to your home all in one visit! You can select paint colors, window treatments, art, framing, and receive advice *should you want it* (Hold the onions! haha). We are your in-home shop!
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We welcome working with the DYI-er. We offer affordable pricing ā by the hourā¦to help you in areas you need help with. It is different for everyone. Some of my clients want to walk me through their home and ask me questions about each room. Some people want me to help them find clues throughout their home to identify what style they are so they know how to better shop for things that go together. Some people are intimidated by art and need help getting things up on their walls. Some people need me to help them with new furniture layouts. Or just rearrange what they have for a fresh room. Some prefer me to do an entire room from start to finish. Whatever the degree, this is what Iām here for. There is something really *custom* and *fun* about having a designer come in and see things from a fresh perspective and weāll even let you take the credit for it when you have people over! (wink!)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
<a href="http://lintelsandlallies.com/?page_id=14" target="_blank">This year weāve simplified our pricing. If you are interested, shoot me an e-mail or give us a call! Hope to hear from ya soon!</a></span>

The warm glow of the Christmas tree lights up your evening. Festive, shiny decorations fill every surface of your home. Then, you face the dreaded tear-down process... <br />
<br />
There is a little sadness to putting it all away, but what I think many people neglect to think about is that there are still great ways to *decorate* through the winter months. With many years decorating showrooms and window displays, Iāve learned a few tricks to help *ease* out of the holiday season. Check them out below:<br />
<br />
1.Glitz. Silver & Gold. This is a great color scheme to carry you through the New Year & the remainder of a wintery January. So bring out (or leave out) the crystal, silver bowls, etc.<br />
<br />
2.Keep the red. No, sorry, the Santas need to goā¦but look at your decorations, and find items that donāt scream *Christmas* & repurpose them. For example, maybe you have red roses, red lanterns, candles, candle-holders, tray/bowls etc. Red is a very warm color. So, visually it will help you have a toasty space even when it is cold outside. Keeping a red color scheme will carry you through Valentineās Day.<br />
<br />
3.You donāt have to ditch the greenery. Evergreens are just thatā¦forever green. Now, Iām not saying the Christmas tree should stay up, but I do think sprays/sprigs/twigs are an easy way to warm up a space.<br />
<br />
4.Chances are you may not have enough of each of these items to spread across the entire house...so just do groupings. While you are putting things away, if you come across something listed above, set them in a pile so that you can work in smaller areas. Create little vignettes with your left over decorations. Maybe you want to do a winter-wonderland mantel, decked out in silver & gold....or perhaps an entryway draped with greenery & creme candles. Have fun looking at your decorations in a new way & try something fresh!<br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Whew, so whatās with that heavy subject title, eh?! <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;"><span style="mso-char-type: symbol; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Well, for those of you who know me, know Iām a
ridiculous dreamer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I believe anything
can happen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Iām one of those annoying *positive*
people.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Iāve always felt something
*big/great* would happen to me one day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>I grew up watching āStar Searchā and dreaming of what it would be like
to be one of those people.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I used to
watch movies & would quickly memorize lines and became fascinated by the
*world of television*.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, having my own
show on HGTVā¦um, are ya kiddinā me?!ā¦*design + TV*ā¦.SIGN ME UP!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At first I just toyed with the ideaā¦then you
all encouraged me and I realized, Iāve got nothing to lose, letās do it!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">So, I checked everything outā¦there was a very long (Iām
guessing around 15 pages) questionnaire to fill out, portfolio pics, headshot
pics, and then there was the actual audition video submission.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As some of<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>you may know, we kinda like to have fun with videos around hereā¦itās
something Iāve done since I was a kidā¦weād make spoofs & music videos on
cameraā¦just have funā¦now as adults we even make our friends do silly videos
with us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But an audition videoā¦hmmm
suddenly my palms got a little clammy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Suddenly
it was hard to just *be myself* haha!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>So, there were about 5 takes of me saying my name then forgetting what I
was going to talk aboutā¦then, I got through most everything I wanted to say in
one take.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My husband asked me if I
wanted to do it againā¦and I was totally good with it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I felt like I made my point & it was
good. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Had my hubby snap some images of
me & I was good to go! <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, I stayed
up late & submitted my video along with the giant questionnaire &
required images. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I got terribly excited because the next day I was contacted
by the casting department thanking me for the submission & asking me to fix
the link to my video as I accidentally set it to private on youtube & that
they looked forward to reviewing it. (smack myself on the forehead moment)<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When, you are hopeful for something a
powerful analytical state can take over your mindā¦hmmmā¦.did they like my
answers to my questions?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Did they like
my work? <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Did they like my pics?...I mean
they could have just been like āhey, if ya canāt submit a video properly, I donāt
need to waste my timeā.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But they didnāt,
they let me know.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Did they see something
in me? <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Uhā¦.who knows.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Then, weeks went by nothing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>I talked to Meg, (last seasonās winner) and she told me her video
callback took 3-4 weeks, that I should totally hold on to the dream.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Well, next week is week 4.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, Iām pretty sure I didnāt make the cut.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But this was honestly already a great
experience.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The questions I had to
answer really made me think about things in a new wayā¦helped me to analyze
myself as a designer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was interesting
& fun to work through that thought process.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>When you wait for something you *want* that feels *meant to be* it
really is a Willy Wonka momentā¦you become consumed by the hope/faith that you
will be chosen!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Every phone call over
the past week has awakened a lively spirit in me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>While it began from hopes of a callback, Iāve
learned that maybe I should approach every phone call with that same
teenage-like excitementā¦ya know ā boyfriend calls & ya RUN to the phone as
FAST as ya can.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, now Iām looking at
that a little differently.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Regardless if
Iāve got a rep calling me, a client, or an evil telemarketer, Iāve now learned
to put a little pep in my step when answering the phone! ;)<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">A little piece of me wants to crash & throw a pitty
party this weekā¦but en lieu of Thanksgiving, Iāve realized that God holds the
perfected plan to my life.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Sure Iāve
communicated what I *want* to Him, but he *knows* what I *need* and what I can handle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Itās time to let it go, and surender it all to God-it's all in his hands.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Be grateful for what the experience has
taught me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Should the phone ring &
be THE call-Iāll be certain to fill ya inā¦but otherwise, Iām happy that I
challenged myself.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I stepped out of my
comfort zone & tried to make a dream happen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If ya donāt try, it canāt happen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, I did my part.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Iām grateful for the wave of excitement &
it was nice holding on to the hope for something BIG.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I always feel the need to challenge myself
and grow both personally & professionally, so this was a step in that
direction.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Wishing you & your
family a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love, surprises, and a rekindled
zeal for answering the phone! ;) Blessings~</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><em>(If you've already read this post, scroll down to the bottom for the updated images!)</em></span><br />
<em><span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: x-small;"></span></em><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One of the things that make my design process unique is the
way I use art.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Many people think of art
as an afterthought, or just an accessory.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When I can, I try to use it as inspiration
to build a room from. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That is exactly
what I did when designing my kitchen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>About 12 years ago, I purchased my first pieces of art, which included
these two great vintage magazine covers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>I love their personality, history, and humor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My goal was to evoke that *feeling* in our
kitchen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I also used a literal
translation, by mimicking the colors in the art.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Youāll see the same colors in my barstool
fabric, my cabinets, and even the cream background of the art is what I used in
selecting my countertops.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are the vintage magazine covers I used.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS16R3ieLgxOY15pi_3QPlR8h5LhWev1Veis2mdpNkam4IH6lHjoCTlgZfm6q4Ye-11ns43DeHXzlFitng6w0YO4E7j9hy86Q5neFreax6j1TKCuwDz_x7r-Z2q5R2UoENFXwJ8fcr1wRn/s1600/REV_KitchenArt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS16R3ieLgxOY15pi_3QPlR8h5LhWev1Veis2mdpNkam4IH6lHjoCTlgZfm6q4Ye-11ns43DeHXzlFitng6w0YO4E7j9hy86Q5neFreax6j1TKCuwDz_x7r-Z2q5R2UoENFXwJ8fcr1wRn/s320/REV_KitchenArt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">Being a picky eater growing up, I could totally relate to
wanting to feed the dog under the tableā¦and anyone who knows me knows that
while Iām a great cook, I canāt bake.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Every time I try, it burns & my hubby laughs at meā¦so you can see
the immediate connection these pieces have with us!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg85Bv-JSjVNUNMVh16QYsouo-i0vtOfDJc4FdvkcxkZp1H1QTPk2v2LR1m_6EgIGNHXIZJBtk7g6T7U7YJeE2KJxPvjBZFzwuHiWvNftOAD9COCoI4B1dvJZd9YAIApmZfkteUJmYR_2_R/s1600/REVKitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg85Bv-JSjVNUNMVh16QYsouo-i0vtOfDJc4FdvkcxkZp1H1QTPk2v2LR1m_6EgIGNHXIZJBtk7g6T7U7YJeE2KJxPvjBZFzwuHiWvNftOAD9COCoI4B1dvJZd9YAIApmZfkteUJmYR_2_R/s320/REVKitchen.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My husband & I built this home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, the ābeforeā was actually on
blueprints.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Fortunately it was much
easier to change a blueprint on paper than to actually knock down wallsā¦ The
original design was very closed off to the rest of the home and had an extremely
basic look. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, the first element of
design I tackled was the island shape.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>If you are a baseball fan, like my hubby is, the *baseball diamond*
shape may look familiar to you.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This was
one way I was able to pull him into the space.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Because of the island shape, we had to build the rest of the space on
the same angle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I actually have a great
working triangle & love the placement of the dishwasher in relation to the
sink.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My latest project, which will be finished by the end of the
week, is my penny backsplash.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Yep, you
read that rightā¦Iām adhering pennies to our wall.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>(It is wonderful to have a husband who trusts
my designs!) Why pennies?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Well, I really
wanted copper.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Copper is pricey.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, this was an affordable option.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also, I have a connection to *pennies* that
added to *our story*.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My grandmother who
passed away several years back used to collect pennies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When she passed, she left me a container of
pennies from the year I was born.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Till
this day, when we find a penny on the ground, we have to pick it up and say āGrandma
Janeczkoās with us today!ā<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is a fun
way to keep her memory alive & in a room where our family gathers the most,
I know she is smiling on us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

had to all be facing up.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We also didnāt

I alternated randomly between heads & tails.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We just love it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was the perfect final touch to bring

<b><span style="font-family: Arial;">The Versatility of Vintage Rugs</span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Vintage can be a vague term often referring to an
elusive time in the past.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When it comes
to rugs, vintage has a distinct meaning. Rugs produced between the 1920s -
1970s</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">are classified as vintage.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This time period in the arts was an explosion
of style, color, and experimentation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>The results were an eclectic mix of beauty, sophistication, and
playfulness which reflected the influence of major art movements throughout the
world including modernism, minimalism, and surrealism. Rugs and textiles were a
part of this shift in artistry and, in turn, a broad range of styles is
conveyed by vintage rugs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Their
versatility in interior design is outstanding. From sleek, subtle designs to complex
patterns and bright colors, the expanse of vintage rugs complements many home
and office styles.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Whether your space is minimalist modern or boldly
traditional, there is a vintage rug that would be a great fit.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Letās take a look at some of the popular
types of vintage rugs.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;">Moroccan Vintage Rugs<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Moroccan vintage rugs are as diverse as the region
itself.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A central feature in Moroccan
vintage rugs is the use of geometric designs that can range from intricately
complex to delicately simple.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Diamond
motifs, decorated borders, and one-of-a-kind patterns are identifiable traits
of these rugs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Because of their beauty
and adaptability, vintage Moroccan rugs have had a dedicated following amongst
well known designers and architects including Charles and Ray Eames, Le
Corbusier, and Frank Lloyd Wright. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;">Vintage Kilims<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Kilims are a handwoven, pileless rug created by using
tapestry techniques.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Typically
associated with regions in Anatolia, the Balkans, and parts of Iran, kilims
were often produced by nomadic tribes or within villages using regional
materials and cultural designs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>While
kilims have been around for centuries, there are also vintage kilims that were
created in the last fifty years.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Vintage
kilims reflect a high level of craftsmanship with weaving techniques that have
been passed down through generations. These textiles are truly artisan rugs
that are often lightweight and durable.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;">Over-Dyed Vintage Rugs<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-border-shadow: yes; mso-padding-alt: 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt 31.0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Over-dyed distressed rugs are in high demand right
now.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These types of rugs can be created
by taking a vintage rug and accelerating the aging process through a series of
dyeing and washing cycles. Using vintage design elements as the foundation,
bold colors and organic blending creates a new rug deeply influenced by its
beginnings.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The textures of over-dyed
vintage rugs are reminiscent of antique rugs and have a great sense of depth
while the colors are infused with fresh, modern shades.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Vintage rugs are an exploration outside of the classical
boundaries of antique rugs. Their colors, patterns, and textures explore new
depths while their craftsmanship remains of the highest quality.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A wonderful melding of tradition and
creativity, vintage rugs are a beautiful addition any space.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When I watch a movie the first time, I tend to notice only
the major design elements but try hard not to let my mind stray so that I can
follow the storyline.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It isnāt until my
second preview, that I really become consumed by the design details.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This weekend we re-watched the āHunger Gamesā.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Really great storyline, however even the
first time I watched it I found the styles/design to be so jarring!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>By the second viewing, it drove me nuts.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My husband had read the book, so I asked him if there was great
description of what people wore and the settingsā¦naturally he didnāt remember,
but Iām willing to bet it was Hollywood that just didnāt āknock this one outta
the ball parkā.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>With the movieās
success, Iām hoping the subsequent movies will be better.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In case you havenāt watched it, here is a quick synopsis:</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">It takes place in the
future.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After an apocalyptic </i><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">event poor districts
are formed around a wealthy capitol.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As
punishment for rebelling against the capitol, and as a reminder of the history,
a televised āHunger Gamesā takes place where each district has to enter a boy
& girl (lottery style) to fight to the death, leaving one survivor. <o:p></o:p></i></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The beginning of the film has a very somber feeling
influenced by the depression era.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When I
first watched the movie I remembered the mood the sepia & wardrobe evoked.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As the districts are marching to the reaping,
it is almost a snapshot of the 1940ās.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>This definitely set the stage for what you should experience while
watching the opening, but it displaced the timeline of the movie.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I think they could have still achieved the
correct atmosphere by using the sepia screen, and posture of the charactersā¦the
wardrobe, to me, was too āauthenticā.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Even if they made their own clothing, I donāt think every district would
select 1940ās patternsā¦just saying. Check out the images below & see the lack of cohesion I'm talking about...</span></div>

Many of my friends & family have asked for some recipesā¦so I thought Iād put them all in one place. Feel free to leave a comment on the ones youāve tried & let me know what you think about them. And sorry folksā¦but if ya want our family āEggrollsā or my special āSunday Sauceāā¦youāll just have to get together with me sometime so I can cook for ya! ;)
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I cook a lot with fresh onion & garlic. If you donāt know how to easily cut them, ask me sometime!
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Some recipes are basic, some require a little more time. Some are from my family, some original, some from the Internet. Iām always trying new recipes, so check back often as I will be updating this particular blog with our family favorites.

Stir in sauce (adding slowly to the thickness you like-depends on how much meat you get) Add spices to taste & simmer. (start with 1/2 teaspoon of everything (excluding cayenne) then add to desired taste. Then I lightly butter one side of my shells & assemble my tacos in a nonstick pan this gets the outside of the shell nice & crispy. </span><br />

Add veggies and taste to see how much of the chicken base you want to add (I start with 1 Tb) when water boils, add noodles & tear chicken add last.
I add one breast to my soup & cut up the other for salad. Salt & pepper chicken & add mayo & cut red grapes for salad serve on croissant, crackers, or bread.

In a skillet-heat oil (very hot). Rub salt & pepper on roast. Scorch all sides of roast in skillet. This gives you a yummy ācrustā. Deglaze skillet with red wine (if you donāt know how to do this ask me) Then, in crockpot, add roast, drippings, cut veggies, water Jamison stock (read back I usually add about 2 TB)

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've never really considered myself 'crafy'. Creative and artistic, sure, but crafty...not so much. I don't really have the patience to sit and scrapbook, cut & glue things with precision...just not my thing. However, I do always have scrapbook paper on hand. It seems I always find a different purpose for it. I've used them for place mats at parties, as gift card holders, and now the most recent repurpose I learned....is using decorative papers for a finishing touch on gift wrapping!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Below are images of two gifts I just wrapped. Want to learn how to make the paper roses? (Gosh, that sounds crafty doesn't it!) Just scroll down. They are easy, anyone can do it!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><strong>Rose Instructions:</strong></span></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBlJOZP-AhpES1rux5t_v-Ia9yUf49ZD0m4j5QARNpNk92RSa-GqOA8MTbAk3K6UFQuVcH1xmxUwE76LDM9yahmdMsaNluzizDgovlJZ7yy6sARFIR2mM6EQHSLxT3VWnXeUmHPQzsADv/s1600/DSC07962.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBlJOZP-AhpES1rux5t_v-Ia9yUf49ZD0m4j5QARNpNk92RSa-GqOA8MTbAk3K6UFQuVcH1xmxUwE76LDM9yahmdMsaNluzizDgovlJZ7yy6sARFIR2mM6EQHSLxT3VWnXeUmHPQzsADv/s320/DSC07962.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First, draw a spiral. Doesn't have to be perfect...just give yourself a rough guide...(draw on the back of the decorative paper)</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL-FNmIH2RUgwlv4RShuqk34aDoINBtABFQzPXK9VW-NbpoH2PIsTCU3CqtcZvNJQlyUQV0fkSHoW6prDBb18UarEHkcdQUehLvwgN7MOv8k2dyVT1kyqXsf0UuBGXJOt18yGdmtrk_iWZ/s1600/DSC07965.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL-FNmIH2RUgwlv4RShuqk34aDoINBtABFQzPXK9VW-NbpoH2PIsTCU3CqtcZvNJQlyUQV0fkSHoW6prDBb18UarEHkcdQUehLvwgN7MOv8k2dyVT1kyqXsf0UuBGXJOt18yGdmtrk_iWZ/s320/DSC07965.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next, use your drawing as a guide & cut following the lines. You can even cut jagged to give the edges a scalloped look.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br /><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipGRe5CozyWa5LFSpbLtm7MYYgl1Xmm0Wn-mJ1gWZlTVwVC6qYiDciAbffAXvTaN0yqS4TYcTpwYewEEvxx3szw83ORHozP4V9MWa0zibgZAgQsC79Cm3944sxVI8Uy0K_dynP-nEk4_ML/s1600/DSC07968.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipGRe5CozyWa5LFSpbLtm7MYYgl1Xmm0Wn-mJ1gWZlTVwVC6qYiDciAbffAXvTaN0yqS4TYcTpwYewEEvxx3szw83ORHozP4V9MWa0zibgZAgQsC79Cm3944sxVI8Uy0K_dynP-nEk4_ML/s320/DSC07968.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Start with the outer edge & tightly roll so that the decorative print is on the inside of your roll. I try to keep the bottom of the roll straight. It will spring out a little 1/2 way through & that is fine.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh0vAo-tESDF-UT_KmX3lcmUnm5vCXI2MxSiL5fCxEpGXIOOuOxZ0QnjiVJJ2AjHecvO5J2fKIMJFI8oMjN59gq0fO8xstK5GvF4CknQrflBslWo7F_wowJzkZlZ_ghEYvWHl8KcUF-Ffs/s1600/DSC07964.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh0vAo-tESDF-UT_KmX3lcmUnm5vCXI2MxSiL5fCxEpGXIOOuOxZ0QnjiVJJ2AjHecvO5J2fKIMJFI8oMjN59gq0fO8xstK5GvF4CknQrflBslWo7F_wowJzkZlZ_ghEYvWHl8KcUF-Ffs/s320/DSC07964.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When you get to the center of the spiral, that naturally becomes the base of the rose. Put a little glue in there & twist the rose until you are happy with the way it looks. The center of the rose will be more recessed in & you'll want to almost crunch the paper down with your fingers so it'll set with the glue.</span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Try it...even without glue. If you have a little girl, make one with her, my daughter loves them! ;)</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: x-small;">I'm more traditional. I like to be woken up to music. So, if you are wondering what I chose....I picked this vintage style alarm. It takes up less space than my old one from (cough) middle school & will allow me to wake up to whatever song I want from my ipod. My first playlist song of choice? "Oh, Happy Day". Every time I hear it at the end of "Secretariat" I feel energized!</span><br />

Below you'll find 10 tricks to give you the confidence you need to select colors you will love.<br />
<br />
1. ALWAYS look at the color samples in the room you intend to paint. Even if you think the lighting is the same somewhere else, you will be surprised to learn that color is made by different amounts of light. This is why it looks different when you bring random samples home from the store. Also, color is effected by surrounding colors. So if you are IN THE ROOM to be painted, you wont have any surprises . <br />
<br />
2. Stop viewing colors on tables! Horizontal surfaces give you 100% light saturation. Unless you are painting a table, you should hold colors vertically.<br />
<br />
3. Decide how you want to "feel" in the room. If you want a calm relaxing feeling, look at cooler colors. <br />
(blue greens grays). If you want to feel energized try warmer colors (colors with yellow or red undertones) <br />
<br />
4. Don't limit yourself. Get a designer to bring the full deck of colors into your space. Using preselected color schemes in brochures are predictable and limiting. Those colors are designed to work together with each other... Which sounds fool proof...but keep in mind they selected those colors without YOUR SPACE in mind. A good designer can help you select harmonizing colors if you don't trust yourself. <br />
<br />
5. Use the best designer in the world for your guide...take a look outside. God's landscapes display the lightest color high (sky) and then, grounds everything with darkest colors. (tree trunks, dirt, dark grass). <br />
<br />
6. Saturation. This is the spectrum of how "solid or dense" a color feels. When selecting colors for rooms that are open to each other, make sure you select saturation values that work together.<br />
<br />
7. A space can feel larger, more opened up when furniture is similar to the wall color. But keep in mind that if your wall color is an unnatural color for your furniture or storage, then you may be drawing attention to something you are trying to make disappear. <br />
<br />
8. Look to favorite items for inspiration. (a vase, art, outfit etc) ask yourself what you like about it. (color, pattern, texture etc). Apply that item to your color selection.<br />
<br />
9. If you have doubts, really, it is just paint take a deep breath - you can easily change paint colors<br />
<br />
10. Accent walls. Stop over using them folks. An accent wall should be used when you have a wall of importance that you want to draw attention to. So, choose a wall that you want people to look at as a focal point. (fireplace, headboard, walls people face the most). The other use of an accent wall is to make a long space feel smaller by painting both ends darker. Or to open a small space up by painting both ends lighter.<br />
<br />
There you have it! Ten, easy steps to help you get it right the first time. If it still seems overwhelming, get a hold of me. Not only am I training in this, but I've been working with color for a very long time & I'm very passionate about it! It is FUN for me! :) <br />

Happy painting!Barbara Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03294514932690464869noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042469888903229529.post-14292615509949152082012-07-16T18:59:00.000-07:002012-07-31T14:57:46.878-07:00Guest Blogger-Arcadian Lighting on VelvetHi, all! I'm Mari, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, a terrific online place to find beautiful <strong><a href="http://www.arcadianlighting.com/" target="_blank">lighting fixtures</a></strong> of all sorts. I'm so excited to be here visiting <em>Lintels and Lallies </em>today, with a guest post about one of my decorating obsessionsācolorful velvet.
For me, there is nothing more inspiring than velvetāunless perhaps it's velvet on a chair (my first love is chairs) like the irresistible ones in the dining room below. It seems to me velvets are showing up more and more in today's interiors no matter their style. This sumptuous fabric looks as gorgeous in contemporary spaces as it does in ornate classic rooms. Here are some of my favorites. Please enjoy!

Here, velvet floor cushions in a deep golden hue are a beautiful contrast to the long silvery tufted sofa. Lush velvets are a lovely choice for this elegant living space.

Magenta velvet covers a comfortable chaise in this eclectic bedroom. Quirky light fixtures always catch my eye and I've fallen for this spindly little floor lamp

Rosy velvet looks stunning on an antique chaise in this traditional room. I love the wood trim on the lounge and the brass lamp and wall sconce.

<div style="text-align: center;">

Deep teal velvet creates multiple points of interest in a modern living room. How lovely are those massive brilliant yellow table lamps?
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

It is no surprise that jewel tone velvets look gorgeous in glam interiors. Delicate French garden-inspired chairs upholstered in deep turquoise velvet surround a Hollywood Regency style table in this beautiful dining room.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI4AnuAYppYCi6L-pmo6PsG8fpsxHpjOlMgfAE2DPS7IKZXXDvRUDYfUjINShgV18IQuzdZORjbP6Z9SuD9Itk2IfSjMB6EArhtYWohoB2I45jMOlVpjiewB8Gd9aQUGNDnyHkOZp4rXtc/s1600/7+Colorful+Velvet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI4AnuAYppYCi6L-pmo6PsG8fpsxHpjOlMgfAE2DPS7IKZXXDvRUDYfUjINShgV18IQuzdZORjbP6Z9SuD9Itk2IfSjMB6EArhtYWohoB2I45jMOlVpjiewB8Gd9aQUGNDnyHkOZp4rXtc/s320/7+Colorful+Velvet.jpg" width="231" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
Here, a gold vintage velvet sofa (and perhaps a chaise seen in the lower right corner) combines beauty and a look of comfort. The tall metal lamps offer a big style statement behind the sofa.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">Interior styles have always kind been broken down into about five different categories: </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">1. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Sleek </b>(Modern & Contemporary-Clean Lines) </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">2. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Traditional </b>(Formal, Ornate, Heritage) </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">3. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Earthy</b> (Ethnic, Global, International) </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">4. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Casual</b> (Rustic, Country, Character) </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">5. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Color</b> (Animation, Vibrant, Playful).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">About 10 years ago, the word āeclecticā was on the tip of everyoneās tongue.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It described what was supposed to be a ācollectedā lookā¦before long it was the go-to description by everyone who didnāt know what style their home was.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Then, Iād say for the last 5 years, a new interior descriptive word has crept in-that word is ātransitionalā.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have you heard that one?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Have you used it to describe your own home?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Transitional meant clean traditional lines, but without the ornate fussiness.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It also allowed us to weave in different style categories as the transitional selections became very neutral & acted as almost a back drop to display different unique items. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum;">So what is next?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Well, the āblendā certainly hasnāt gone away, thatās for sure!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now we call it āintersectionsā.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Weaving various styles sometimes with a blunt balance (what I call the mullet of interior design) and sometimes the blend is smooth (which is what I personally prefer).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For me, well...letās just say there are MANY dirty little secrets, but for a starter I decided to shamefully share with you under my kitchen sink & my laundry room. ā¦</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is the before of my kitchen sink:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6Bnwuw6WDqB8zCMKEZiy8UNFL3SCqL25KKtgQkgCDg2KdsLKh23Vf3O_hrivUJ2PaAfH6p9VtCYuBHJIB48PX4f8RPOH6lbIsP8u5TFft5stiA3fIG7wBHR6duPFODaIhOQirgkmLjxOd/s1600/DSC07075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6Bnwuw6WDqB8zCMKEZiy8UNFL3SCqL25KKtgQkgCDg2KdsLKh23Vf3O_hrivUJ2PaAfH6p9VtCYuBHJIB48PX4f8RPOH6lbIsP8u5TFft5stiA3fIG7wBHR6duPFODaIhOQirgkmLjxOd/s320/DSC07075.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I took everything out and realized that the majority of the items I don't use, or were duplicates.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, anything that I didnāt use on a regular basis (such as insect killer, mouse traps & bug spray) I put either in the garage or on a shelf in the basement.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If there were any cleaners that were duplicates and I could pour them into one, I combined them (but don't worry folks, only those of the same brand).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If they were too full, I transferred them to another bathroom.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>For instance, I have an upstairs bathroom, so it was nice to have glass cleaner & floor cleaner up there rather than going up & down the stairs each time I clean, which is what I did before. The out-of-control grocery bags I put into one tote bag to keep them organized for easy grabbing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, this was my finished result: <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3pUvbnzJa1c7dGojBz82XhKWKeoaOQYmyc4CWQrH39x-82j56gt6gBaxWVzBEfpZ7lBEXui5R3T23iMj4-x-n6eW2zfAbW89ZpJ5C5NfBIrr3Dql0QxscebQCsgtmBGO_WK04AYSVctw/s1600/DSC07076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3pUvbnzJa1c7dGojBz82XhKWKeoaOQYmyc4CWQrH39x-82j56gt6gBaxWVzBEfpZ7lBEXui5R3T23iMj4-x-n6eW2zfAbW89ZpJ5C5NfBIrr3Dql0QxscebQCsgtmBGO_WK04AYSVctw/s320/DSC07076.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now, on to my laundry room.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As you may know, my husband & I built our home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I studied each room of the floor plans, making the finest detailed change.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Some rooms I even completely āredesignedā the floor plan.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But then, thereās the laundry roomā¦I neglected that room completely.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Which if you ask my hubby, he wouldnāt be surprisedā¦as this is the room I had planned on spending the least amount of time in!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A lot of newer homes have a grand laundry/mudroom comboā¦there are endless possibilities with spaces like those to make you want to enjoy the room.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However, when your laundry room basically leaves just enough room for the laundry machines & opening the doorsā¦you have to get a little creative with your space planning.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In my mind, the original plan was to stack the washer & dryer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We tried that, and it simply overwhelmed the room, making it feel even tighter.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Why?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Well, because a stacked unit is like creating a floor to ceiling 'wall' in a room that is already tight.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you have a small room in your home, you know where Iām coming from when I say that a few out-of-place items can make it look messy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That is exactly what we faced.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Luckily for you, I never took ābeforeā picsā¦(well, I guess it would have been a good laugh for youā¦but yuck!)<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So, below are my āafterā pics.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hereās what I did: <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>By moving both units to one side of the room, opposite the entry door, it gave vertical space for brooms, mops, etc.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I asked my husband to install a wire shelving system for me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Why wire?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Because it gives the illusion of a more open space, just as when the machines were stacked, <em>solid </em>shelving would have created a visual āwallā.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I chose a grey color because it was a little more industrial, and different than your basic white wire shelving units you see everywhere.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div style="border: currentColor;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The last - and very important - part is something Iām very passionate about, and you will hear me say over & overā¦and thatās <strong>āARTā!</strong><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I have had several clients over the years who had me help them design framing for laundry rooms.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The first time I heard it I thought (to myself of course) āWell, that must be nice to have enough art to decorate my laundry room.ā<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Honestly, it makes the room more enjoyable.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><em>Art is YOUR creative stamp on ANY space</em>.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I wanted a serene laundry room with soft colors, so this black & white image is perfect.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I personally have a thing for stormy skies & I love that, in this image, you can see that a storm is coming, even though it is black & white. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, donāt forget to design EVERY room in your home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Itās YOUR home, make it YOUR OWN by spending time on each space little by little.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Please share any of your organization stories with me, Iād love to hear/see what youāve come up with!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you have a question or want advice, just post it here or on FB, Iām happy to answer!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>Barbara Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03294514932690464869noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042469888903229529.post-47648808787646931982011-10-12T10:27:00.000-07:002012-07-31T15:01:19.529-07:00Frogs, Snails & Puppy Dog Tails<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Below are some images from the Baby Shower this past weekend.
